| "I want to wake up in the city that never sleeps to find I'm king of the hill, top of the heap. These little town blues are melting away. I'll make a brand new start of it in old New York. If I can make it there, I'll make it anywhere. It's up to you New York, New York!" - New York, New York by Frank Sinatra New York City is awesome . My sister and I just got back. We decided since we couldn't go somewhere tropical and beautiful (and expensive) this spring break because of Italy this summer, we'd do something decently cheap and not so tropical. So Monday morning we drove off to NYC. It was great. The ride was kinda long and crappy but our crazy antics made it bareable. We got there around 7 or 8 Monday night and decided we'd try to see the Statue of Liberty. So we drove (yes, drove ) into NYC from where we were staying in New Jersey, over the George Washington bridge and down the coast of the city. It was so beautiful at night, all lit up. Of course there was nowhere to park, but we could see it from where we were driving around and it was so amazing. It's like one of those things you see in pictures and movies all the time, but when you actually get to see it in person, it feels so different. It was great. After that, we went back to our hotel and crashed out. Tuesday we got up (about 2 hours later then planned), took the bus into NYC (remember the bus Andi ) and immediately went into Times Square. Amanda was like a kid in a candy store. It was so cute. I'd seen it before, so it wasn't new, but it was still exciting. Everything is so big and bright and beautiful. I was even able to ignore the fact that it was freezing most of the time. We walked around in the square, taking pictures and shopping. Then we headed over to 5th Avenue and down to the Empire State building. The view from the top of that building is beyond amazing. First of all, it's freaky. You're 86 stories up in the air. Pigeons are just chilling on the decor. I was a little creeped out, but the view makes you forget all that. You can see everything. The statue, the Chrysler building, Ground Zero, Central Park...everything. It's so amazing. After that, we continued up 5th Avenue and did some major shopping. We stopped in just about every major store - Coach, Versace, Prada, Louis Vuitton and, of course, Tiffany's - and dreamed for 2 seconds that we could afford anything sold in there. I got some cool gifts for my friends (in different, cheaper stores of course) and then we made it to Central Park. The Plaza was getting renovated...still...so we couldn't go it, and I was kinda bummed about that, but it was still beautiful to see. And, hey, they're renovating the residences in there so maybe I could go Eloise soon and be "a city child" and live there. For $2.5 million. Right. After that, we headed back toward Port Authority, stopping at our new, favorite cafe in the city, Europa Cafe. We got some coffee (and hot chocolate) and delicious pastries and then headed toward the bus. We ate dinner at Bennigan's and then crashed again. Wednesday we got up (with some major leg pains) and headed back into the city. This time we hopped on the subway and headed to the southern most tip of Manahattan...and right into the World Trade Center site. That was kind of surreal. You don't know how much is missing until you actually see it. There's the beautiful skyline and buildings all around and then a huge, gaping hole in the middle of the city. There's nothing. Just a hole. It's eery. They're building a transportation center, so there are machines and construction all around it, but the scene is still just surreal. After that, we walked down to the Museum of Jewish History. It's a museum dedicated to the Jewish life and religion, as well as the Holocaust. All and all, that afternoon was spent seeing sites about dead people . My sister is kinda sadistic and creepy sometimes. But they were both great experiences. Then we hopped back on the Subway, did some more shopping, had dinner at our cafe and headed back to the hotel. We were so pooped from 2 straight days of nothing but walking, we just chilled in bed and watched Lost. This morning we got up, packed and headed home. Nice, long ass drive. Pennsylvania is beautiful, but boring. I fucking hate Ohio. I was glad to see Michigan (and the 70 mph speed limit). I had a great time though. I'm so glad we did something . Tomorrow, I'm hanging out with Kat and going to get Trav for my Luau party at Rum Runners. If you're 21 and you want to come to that with me, just call me and let me know so I can put your name on the guest list. It starts at 6 and it's gonna be so much fun. You're pretty much a loser if you don't come. And now, I'm going to crash because I'm exhausted. Goodnight! Lato -<3- ME |
